Mine is a April 2001 and I still had the nipple as well, easiest is to simply crawl underneath and have a "feel". I dont think the date of manufacture (unless its late 2001) will have much bearing on it, it will also depend on how long they took to get from here (uk) to there and then being registered.

So you may well be correct Mike.....its just over here we take the year / ageof the vehicle as to when it was registered, as far as actually being put togther, that could be months apart.

I agree, but over here " most" people never have a clue when their car was actually put together, they probably never see a "Build sheet" , they only ever know the registration date when it was first bought new. Cars may be built and stored for months before actually being purchased and registered.
