Default Differential Leak?

Im checking out a land rover a good distance away. The owner was nice enough to get me pictures of everything including underside of truck and I see the rear differential has what seems like a leak out of where the drive shaft attaches. Is this common? Is there a seal that is replacable in this area?

Its probably just the pinion seal leaking. Nothing to far out the ordinary just probably needs a new seal.

Plan on doing a full major service on whatever you buy as well as replacing/rebuilding the front drive shaft and plug wire replacement with either 8 mm STI or Magnacor wires.

the diffs and t-case have vents on them.....if the vent is plugged , as the diff warms up pressure will build up inside and push the oil out the seal.....very common on these.

Where are the vents? Is there a way to clean them?

It's usually called a breather. It's also normally ontop
of the differential a little capped of nupple. Remove it wash it. If you blow through it it's good.

My breather is a long rubber tube attached to the top of the diff.
