DII 04 SE7 "Engine Noise"
Any one with an internal engine noise needs to first do a oil pressure tested as posted earlier, that is a must before doing anything else.
If the pressure is good, then have the rocker shaft, arms, push rods and lifters inspected for wear. Any one of these will cause the problems and they are not a major issue.

Thanks Mike i will do check tomorrow and post findings. So if i am correct, test cold and then hot?
Thanks again Mike, Chris
Is there anyway to test the knock sensor/ i remember now when i was doing my engine mounts what this open wire was dangeling to the bottom of the engibe block. i am wondering now. I am doing a pressure test tomorow if i have time if not saturday for sure.
Let me know, thanks Chris
Electrician I am not therefore I have no idea if or how to test a sensor including the knock sensors.
But to me it makes sense that if it only knocks under load that it could possibly be spark knock from low grade fuel or bad knock sensors.

It makes sense to me...maybe i unplug it and see anything changes...if not should be a knock sensor as i am using high grade super... I would say it should be that simple but i have a land rover and nothing is just that simple...
Thanks Chris

It's a shame you didn't mention that earlier,
Id still be concerned having not heard it, but a pre-ignition does resemble a wrist pin sound.
More like a dozen marbles rolling around in a thick wooden box, a rod knock is more rythmatic with engine rpm.
You can't rule out the knock sensor, although while it will retard the spark, I don't know if a bad (disconnected) one can advance the spark causing pre-ignition.
Worth looking into.
