DII Coolant leak, engine rough
I have a feeling I already know the answer but, I would like a second opinion. I have been having trouble with my '01 DII. It has been throwing a code for a bad MAF and the engine idle has been a little rough. Nothing drastic but audibly noticeable and the tach needle will jump +- 50 rpm. I replaced the MAF (a little prematurely I now know) It did not fix the code and the idle did not improve. My wife was driving a couple weeks ago and noticed that the heat was blowing cold air. Low coolant was the culprit. I filled up and the heat seemed to go back to normal. Two weeks later, the coolant was low again. This time, a couple days after I filled it I noticed a large (12" dia.) green puddle in my driveway. It appears to be leaking from somewhere near the rear of the motor. This, coupled with the erratic idle and SES light makes me think the worst. Any suggestions?
If you had DexCool (orange) in the truck you should only refill with that. Mixing green and orange will create, quite literally, sludge in your cooling system. It's okay to use green but only if you flush after draining the orange coolant.
If you have already mixed the two -- drain your cooling system and flush it. It sounds like you need head gaskets. Stop driving the truck immediately or you will blow your motor for sure.
When was the last time you changed plugs/wires? Have you completed Mike's 60k service? Also, your rough idle and codes could be O2 sensor related.

A couple of questions, did you have any other codes when you replaced your MAF, did you install a factory MAF with matching part numbers or an after market?
Your coolant leak is your main issue right now, being either a leaking valley pan or the normal head gasket, either way, that needs to be addressed ASAP, like next Monday. Make sure to fill your coolant bottle every morning prior to driving it and keep it short couple mile trips so you don't over heat the engine and drop a sleeve.

The MAF is factory with matching numbers. The SES light came back on shortly after replacing it and is throwing the same codes. The owners manual did not say anything about DEX. We have a GM that runs DEX so I made sure and checked before I filled anything. Plugs and wires were changed out a couple months ago. Wires are STI plugs were BOSCH platinum (which I have recently heard negative things about) I have not done to he 60K mile service. We bought the rig with 105K miles on it. Being new to the Rover world, I guess I didn't know what I was getting into.
your truck came from the dealer with dexcool, someone could have put another coolant in it, hopefully then cleaned all the dexcool out with water before they put the green coolant in.
i would keep the coolant topped off with a universal coolant in the meantime and then come Monday get your system pressure tested so you can find the leak. Also check the oil for contamination on the dip stick. At 105k you are in the range for a common problem with these trucks, a headgasket failure but like Mike said it could be elsewhere....

Most are finding Dexcool to be a harm to the D2 engines and are switching back to the typical green or yellow, like Peak.
Get the system pressure tested and find where your coolant is going first.
