Default DII, DI Viscous Fan Clutch

Is there a difference between the DI and DII fan clutch? I want to replace my fan clutch and would like to use the GM part from the DI sticky if it will work? Thanks very much.

The water pumps are the same, and the GM clutch will screw onto the WP. The holes for the clutch to fan have to be enlarged slightly to allow larger bolts to be used. The GM clutch bolt holes are larger than the old Disco clutch. Some D2 fans and clutches are made together.

Well, mine is a 2001 and I've had it off a few times to replace power steering pumps. As an aside, I'll never buy another used power steering pump. I have gotten some good practice though. The times I've had it off, I haven't paid any attention to the fan clutch.

My 2 cents, just don't buy a "heavy duty" one. I had one briefly as my temps were a bit high. Sounds like an airplane, and really did suck a bit of power and fuel economy. And also, it didn't change temps.

I've searched around but haven't found any definitive answers, but why don't D2 owners look at replacing that monstrous fan with either 1 or 2 thermostatically controlled electric fans? I'm pretty sure that the alternator can handle a few more amps drawn and at least the engine wouldn't sound like a wind turbine...

because LR have enough over heating problems with just the condenser fans crapping out, why would you want to compound the problem with an electric cooling fan.
These are trucks that go thru mud, water and snow that a regular vehicle would never be sujected too.
