Default DII Radio Issues and Weatherband...

Hoping someone here can help me figure out these issues with the various radios in the D2. -

Purchased a 2003 D2 - that had a squarely stock radio - the volume **** was would skip erratically - if it decided to work at all. - In addition - the backlight was flickering. So we picked up a used one from a 99.

I know that the 2003-2004 stock radios did NOT have weather band. However according to several sources (Including the Land Rover 2000 discovery video manual) the 99-02 models had the weather band accessible as the “3rd” AM Band - not a physical WB Button like the older D1’s.

When we hooked up the 99 radio in the 2003 D2 - No weather band. Also it had the same issue with the volume **** (not to mention a tape eject that sent the cassette just but into the rear seats…

We’re gonna try another radio - from a 2000, and a 2001 - but there has to be some reason to all of this.
Is anyone familiar with the weather band and the D2 radios. - Not sure why it wasn’t working.

Also noticed that the 2003 radio that was installed had two hook ups for antennas - a large cable and a small cable - the 99 radio - only had one port got yer antennae.
Thank for any help.

There's no weather band on my 2000's radio. I just checked as I read this because I'd never read or heard about it. Mine does have a 2000 part # with the LNF suffix (ie it's not a 2003/2004 radio) but you've piqued my curiosity for sure.

(side note: we have iPhones now. Weather band is useless)

Curious what this weather band gives, the same as a vhf/uhf radio with weather band? I don't have an iphone, can i borrow... I can't even finish asking that.

here is the LR 2000 Video Manual... right from 0:00 of about the first 10 seconds... it talks about the WB radio.

I had a WB button on my 96 D1 - but these seem to be under the AM band button -
check it out.

Yes. - I have an iPhone - . - but since I need a new radio anyway - I thought I'd try to pick one up with the Wb

The second antenna cable was for the optional navigation unit.

The radio in my '99 has the Weather Band feature, just like shown in the linked video above. I press the AM button to scroll among AM1, AM2 and WB.

weather band is nice when you are out of any cell coverage. we use it down at our farm in southern Missouri.

The stock radios on my '99 and '03 both had two antenna connections. The RAVE says that one is a mixed antenna and the other is FM only (I think). I don't know whether they had WB.
There were several levels of radio; perhaps it depends on the specific model that you get.
