Unhappy Dim lights at first start

When I go to work in the morning, I get in my D2 and turn her over. SAI comes on, and I have noticed that when I turn my lights on, my head lights are dim. So I give my engine a little rev, and they brighten right away. Wipers, too. New engine rebuild, new belt. So would it be safe to say I need a new alternator?? Has anyone in rover land been dealing with the same issue?

check that all circuits to the alternator are intact-my Dodge Raider was doing the same thing and the ignition wire to the alternator was open-alternator was pulling up on residual magnetism when revved up a bit, then would work normally until next start.

Check your battery connections are tight and not corroded.
