Hey guys ! So I just bought a 2000 disco 2 about a month ago , and my dad has had PLENTY of these ( Car Dealer ) so I kinda know not to expect good Gas mileage . Well thing is , its getting LESS then 8MPG ( Its really around 6 or 7 ) in town . And that's on Premium gas , after a STP gas treatment thing ( I know they don't work but it feels good to know I tried something ! ) and im driving like my grandma! I checked my Oil today also , and it smells like Exhaust . Getting an oil change tomorrow. Also , when its idling or driving and I'm stopped , there's an odd Fumey smell that I can't place . It's not gas or anti freeze either. But it's really strong and just odd! I know im not gonna get good gas mileage out of it , but damn it shouldn't be this bad ! its like driving a dump truck ! If anybody can help me out I would be extremely grateful! Thanks .

Got any codes? There should be a SES light. Ever replaced the 02 sensors?

How the spark plugs, plug wires, and o2's? Sounds like time for a tune up. Air filter plugged?

fume smell should be pin pointed, you may be asphyxiating yourself with exhaust. how did you do your figures? if with a scangauge/ultragauge, it is advised that you calibrate it, per instructions.

plugged cats could account for more exhuast fumes forward, they can't get out the back. Bet cats will be cherry red at night. Trust me - don't touch.

I drive like I have an egg on the gas pedal.
Never faster than 60 mph.
Never go off the line fast.
I got 14.5 MPG today when I filled it up.

Sounds like it's running like a top! That's what I get on the freeway w/ 32's.
