Disco 2 with P38 engine thats leaking from the front?

No. The cam sensor is in front and the crank sensor is in back. The cam shaft is in the middle of the engine and the crank is below it.

Thats what confused me.. I googled Cam Shaft Sensor and Crank Shaft sensor showed up...

No problem. That cam sensor goes through a hole in the front cover and when it is off or missing all of the oil on the truck drains a super fast. Like 60 seconds and it is gone fast. So, I f there is a leak there I could see it making a pretty big mess with oil.

OK I see the o-ring.. its pretty crushed.. Ill see if this is the fix pretty quickly...

Ok, the cam sensor was not the leak.. So I guess all signs are pointing to the crank shaft seal?

can the front pulley be taken off to inspect it?? is it a DIY job??

Removing the front pulley is a DIY job, but the bolt in the middle of that pulley is on VERY tight. You have to immobilize the pulley to turn it. First, you would remove the fan and the belt.

Two ways to get that incredibly tight bolt off: 1. special tool that holds pulley and can be braced. I had one made. 2. remove oil pan, insert very clean block of wood to keep crank lobes from turning while you loosen the bolt. Then the pulley should slide off.

You will also need something to pull the front seal out, and put it back in. There is a tool called a seal puller, that looks like a hooked screwdriver, or you can just improvise. You'll want to have a new seal handy and possibly a new oil pan seal, too. There are also seal kits to put seals back in, but that can be improvised (I use a big socket).

You won't be able to see much if you do this on the truck. It is in an awkward spot.

Does the oil seem to be coming lower? I may be confusing my threads, but I thought it was coming from in front of the fan. I'll scroll up and see.

Okay, I saw that, and I see that you do not have oil cooler lines... meaning it must be coming from behind the fan. Yep, I'd say the crank pulley is next if you can't see where it is coming from.

I'll offer a third option for loosening the crank pulley. The way I've done it on numerous vehicles (including Rovers) is to put a breaker bar on it, then turn it up against the frame. With the ignition disabled(pull ECU fuse, plug wires, etc) bump the starter and the bolt will be loose.

Front main seal on these engines is actually not that difficult.

Haha! My luck doesn't run toward successful completion of that method.

So, you would use the top of the driver side frame to loosen and the bottom of the passenger side frame to tighten? WOHOO!!! I want a video of that! Someone please do it!

I pulled and changed the camshaft sensor... now the truck idles like **** and is giving me a "camshaft" error on the CEL...

I ordered a new crankshaft seal so i will pull the pulley and make sure I have the sensor installed correctly when I do...

Could I have damaged the cam sensor?? I didnt drop or bang it on anything.. I carried it around like a full martini...

I've never gotten that error but the sensor is pretty basic. I don't think you could damage it, especially if you carried it like a martini. I've left them in the bottom of a toolbox for a year, gotten them wet, thrown them, then put them on an engine and had no issues. More likely the wires are the culprit.
