Default Disco 2 v8 cranks but won’t start.

Hey y’all my son and I were driving up hill two months ago when the disco completely shutoff out of no where. No previous warning signs. Since then I’ve replaced the fuel pump, fuel relay, and crank position sensor with no such luck. I’m thinking ignition module next?

*Edit, I’ve scrolled through all related posts but everyone else seems to have had warning signs or their D2 will start occasionally, mine didn’t experience either.

from my understanding it wouldn’t even crank if it were the alternator or battery?

Doesn't hurt to rule out the cheap and free diagnostics first.

Alternator is not required for running, and yes, won't crank if the battery is dead. Doesn't hurt to throw a meter on and check for ~12 volts, but you would notice if it was cranking too slowly.

Try swapping around relays in both the internal and external fuse box.

Yeah I need to throw a meter on, tried the relay swap already. It cranks hard so no issue there.

You say it "shut off"...so l assume it just quit running, but you had electrical still...since you say it cranks over fine.

You changed fuel pump and relay...but did you verify if pump is running and you have correct fuel pressure?

Did you verify spark? (If no spark, check drivers compartment fuse box, ignition coil fuse could be blown or ignition relay bad)

Did you check inertia switch on firewall, passengers side?

Will it start of ether?

Fully charged battery with tight/clean terminals is important, too.

Is wiring conveying +12V and ground to the pump ? Check with a light probe to pump terminals, or, can you hear it running ? Next is checking for spark.

I have not done any of what you’ve suggested so I’ll try that next. I cannot hear the fuel pump when the key is partially turned so I “assumed” it wasn’t getting power but my knowledge is limited.

Check fuse 24 (10 amp) in the cabin fuse box.
Jumping your fuel relay in the engine bay fuse box could help you rule out the fuel pump.
Last thing I can think of is checking to see if the fuel cut off switch got triggered some how. It's a rubber button in the engine bay, passenger side up against the fire wall. Just press down on the button to reset it.
