Smile Disco II ABS Sensor Problem - Please Help

Hi,

This issue is one a 2001 DII 165k mi. Truck is a daily driver and has had no warning lights or major issues for a couple of years since 3-amigos fixed.

Needed wheel hub replacements. Ordered new hub assemblies with ABS sensors already attached as part of the package. Installed last weekend - no issues except had to spend too much time on right side hub nut. Buttoned it all back up and the ABS light is on.

I have not driven it except back and forth in the driveway. No error codes on normal code reader, took battery lead off for 10 min. Still ABS light on.

I ordered a pair of replacement sensors. I figured if I was going to take it all apart again, I should have new sensors on hand. I plugged the 2 new sensors in (leaving them hanging) and still have ABS light on with the new ones.

SO... What to do next?

I did some research and some people say that the sensors need grease on them - is that true? What kind of grease, etc?

Do the sensors need to reset somehow? Should I just drive the truck for a while?

Should the sensors hanging (not mounted) work, or do they need to "see" the hub? Is there any way to test the sensors before I take it all apart again?

Any other ideas?

Anyone want to buy a DII with an ABS problem? :-) I might be getting too old to spend every third weekend under the two Discos I own.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance...
