Default Disco II Coolant leak

Hi all. Have a 2001 Disco II, got hot on the freeway, shut it down. Pressurized it coolant out of the throttle body heater plate, Replaced it, test drive & all good. Had it running in the driveway &boom, coolant everywhere. let it cool pressurize again, coolant dripping from what looks like between the valve cover & head on the driver side ??? No evidence of water in the oil. Does not overheat. Any advice is appreciated, Thanks.

Quit pressure test your engine, you most likely have exhaust leaking into your coolant system. You can buy a chemical block test kit at the parts store.

If that is coming out of the back of the engine (or the front) - there is a water jacket there and your head gasket may be blown.

You should get mis-fire codes that will offer a clue too.

Your first problem caused low coolant, and you may have been running a higher temp for a while, just not enough to make gauge move off 50%.

The head gasket can fail in any one or all directions at once. It can leak external, not into coolant or oil. It can leak into cylinders, so coolant makes white smoke and exhaust enters the coolant. It can leak coolant into oil (milkshake).

This pix shows an HG failed both internal and external. That rectangular water channel is fore and aft on the head.

A coolant pressure test can be done with a unit loaned by parts store, pump up to 15 psi and watch for leaks, engine off.

As far as overheating, you realy don't know unless you have a OBDII scanner or ultra gauge attached to read digital coolant temp directly. The gauge will point at 50% at 240F.
