Default Disco II Moves when parked in Gear?

I just got a call from my wife who said she had parked her Disco II but unfortunatley left it in 'Drive' (She has an auto). The unfortunate part is that it has rolled down a gentle slpoe into another vehicle.

My wife indicated that she had put the hand brake on, searching around a forum or two it looks like there is a deal where the hand brake has to be engaged with some force, that is not my question. My question is, I though the Disco II would not allow the removal of the key if it was not in 'Park' and if the key was removed and it was left in gear should it have rolled?

I do not drive an automatic so am not sure, I will check out the manual tonight but thought I would try here for some help and info.

Manyt hanks,

Ian.

Ian,

Disco II will not allow the key to be removed from the ignition switch unless it is in park and high or low range, just for the reason you state.

Thanks Bait. A mysterious case of jumping out of gear then....Still, it has cost $50 for a new indicator casing plus god knows how much to replace a Mazda MPV bumper! Oh Joy! I am sure Land Rover will foot the bill for that! [&:]

Could it possibly be she mistakenly put the vehicle in neutral allowing it to roll????

Jupiter - from the trail below (Bait) it seems the Disco should stop you removing the key if it is not in park.

Bene - The car park has a very gentle incline.....probably took abot 5 minutes to travel the 15 yards.....
