Disco II - replace abs module - Los Tres Amigos 'final solution'?
So, with the amigos deciding to stay on instead of coming on and off, the dealer recommended (and I agreed to) replacing the left rear abs sensor and the lead and wiring associated. The repair kept the lights off for about 20 minutes on the ride home. Taking it back, they cleaned the whole area and cleared the code and sent me on my way. Since the amigos have (of course) come back on, they said their only next move is to replace the abs module. I am good with this providing it will be somewhat of a 'permanent' solution... does the membership believe this could fix the lights for a good length of time? Or am I going to be two grand down the road with the lights coming back on? What says the membership??
The option B fix is rebuilding the ABS pump, and there are instructions in a sticky on top of the forum in addition to a lot of good advice and people's experiences.
It does really depend on the codes so you can get an Autocom or ABS Amigo to read the codes. i believe those are the cheapest options, and from there you can decide what to do.
I did this year's ago and the rebuild has held up. A new pump will be a grand plus labor, and the option B fix should be a third of that.

I have found a few companies online who do the refurb... does anyone have a recommendation of a good company? I figure I could take it to a shop, they could remove it and I could have the new one put in...
The option B fix entails isolating a specific wire with the wires going into the ABS module, and doing a direct wire, skipping the part inside the ABS module that goes bad. You will also may need a new set of O-Rings and an ABS shuttle valve switch.
Discovery shuttle valve seals & new style reaining clips
These are the O rings $24
Discovery II ABS Modulator Shuttle Valve Switch
This is the ABS modulator, $80.
Slightly over $100 to do the work yourself. Lets face it, unless you were one of the powerball winners, it is critical to do some of the work yourself.
It is critical that you get the codes read.

Just to be sure, if I want to do Option B - I can do it without removing brake lines and without removing modulator? I can just unbolt, lift up, remove SVS valves, wire up, hook up, and bolt back in?
