Default Disco II throwing to codes - need to get state inspection asap!

Hello All!
I own a 2001 Disco II that's showing the "Check Engine Soon" light.
There are two codes being thrown are P1590 "rough road" and
P0308 "misfire cyl 8". I've had the light tripped (cleared) and have driven the "drive cycle" but the light reappears after three starts or so starts of the engine....I also have the "three amigos light" displayed on the dash (lights have been this way for a while). Any ideas are appreciaited. I have changed out the #8 plug and still nothing different....120,000 miles and runs excellent. Thanks in advance!

Bunch of questions on this:

1. What are the exact codes you are getting?
2. Is you CEL blinking or solid?
3. Any other symptoms with the CEL?
4. Are you loosing any coolant or rough idle?
5. How did the #8 plug look when you removed it?
6. Have you done a tune up? New plugs/wires/etc at 100k?

don't bother with 1590 til you get an abs brake reader. it is generic and tells you "fix your three amigos"
what did the plug look like? are you having any other issues, like loss of coolant? how old are your wires? check for spark?

Default "Disco II throwing to codes - need to get state inspection asap!" update

Hi dusty1
The plug was dry and not burnt down or mid-gapped. I actually switched it out with another plug which looked exactly the same. Wires/tuneup was done about 40k ago. I do have a coolant leak which is small compared to a larger one I had about a year ago. I used a "stop-leak" product that slowed he leak to almost nothing. I have not checked for spark from that wire. I will so this ASAP. Thanks for the reply.

Just for future reference, any stop leak product is a REALLY bad idea on these engines. Well, really in most engines. It can plug stuff up causing your truck to overheat and bad stuff happens.

Have the head gaskets ever been done on your truck? Do you know where the leak was actually coming from?

With water leak you can't rule out that as a possibility.

Missfire #8 bad head gasket, bad wire, bad coil, bad injector. Compression or spark test would be the best idea to whittle it down. I had the same code checked the wires one worked it's way off. Go through the basics fuel spark compression.

Need to know if I can use an OBD II while clearing off my codes. Have to get it down to a minimum of one stored code before the SEL appears and for it to pass inspection....any help is appreciated!
