BCU is under the dash, near the glove box area. It does require synchronization with the ecu and odometer if replaced. Sounds like the shop is using you to fund their new purchase of land rover diagnostics hardware.

I'm really interested to see the breakdown of the repair order as that is how I feel at this moment. Thank you for your input.

Buy a used one and install it, then take it to the dealer and have them do their computer thing to make it all work.

That's exactly how I feel savannha buzz! So I picked up the estimate yesterday and the main cost of the repair was the $2138.00 for the bcu module. This seemed odd to me, so I called 2 local rover dealers and their price was $619 and $548. Needless to say I'm speechless, if I didn't already ask, there is only one body control module on this unit(99 disco II, auto trans)? I contacted another independent in seattle, I'm south by about 30 mi., and they have used ones for $200 and will program,syncronize with land rover software for about $125-$172 including install.

There is only one "BCU" but there are other computers for other things.
