Default Disco Transmission

Guys,

One thing I have noticed here is a lack of transmission posts? Aside from the driveshaft puncture, I've not really seen a lot of problems. Are they pretty reliable?

But if well serviced, every 20,000 to 25,000 miles, they will last a long time.

The automatics don't like water however, as in submerged. That will pretty much trash them.

True, but if your vent tube is properly attached and no seals leaking you should be OK, just like anyone elses tranny. I have had mine under water many time and not had a problem, same holds true for the diffs and t/case.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but it looked like my question may fit. Has anyone used the White Shepherd stuff on their transmission? I recently noticed I have a transmission leak coming from between the t-case and transmission. It can sit for a week and not drip a drop on the ground but I get a few drops on the cross member bar when I've driven it. I don't have the time or funds to work on a transmission right now, so I was hoping to hear some good results.

Haha I don't really consider it a leak as much as an annoyance. I'm fine with engine leaks/drips, but it takes a little more effort topping off the transmission. Plus I would like to try and keep the drops from turning into bigger drops as long as I can.

Not really. Diffs and transfer case are easily drained and refilled, nothing water will hurt provided it's removed in a timely manner.
