Default Disco transmissions

I was just wondering, I have a 1995 Discovery, what other years transmissions will fit in this car? Can you install a newer model, or are they exactly the same?

Thanks,

John

Disco I uses a ZF 4HP22 no computer, the DII uses a ZF 4HP24 computer controlled tranny. You might try looking at RR classics which are basically the same chassis.

If it is from another DI then no problem.

Well, I just bought the car, and did a trans. service, and found quite a bit of shavings in the trans. pan. Fluid was also pretty burnt. It seems fine now, but just want to be prepared if it starts slipping. The truck has 148K miles on it. Not sure of any service history.

Do another drain and fill to get rid of some more of that old fluid, don't change the filter again, then see how it runs.
As for the tranny, 94 and 95's are the same, 96 thru 99'a are different.
