Can someone help me with this? Where should I search this sensor, and is it possible to be fixed
without buying new one? Is it possible to be just a wire? The car is Discovery 2 4.0 Petrol
Could be something as simple as a rubbed wire, or sensor is bad from coming in contact with trigger wheel if hub is bad. First step, slide underneath and see if anything looks wrong with wiring or connection. Then, swap sensors from side to side like suggested. If code moves with swap...you know what the problem is.
I see this is your first post here. Welcome to the forum! You’ve found the best online source for information and support for you to maintain your DII. Where are you located?
First, do you have a copy of the RAVE Workshop Manual for the Discovery Series II? If not, you can download a free PDF from the link in my signature below. It’s an invaluable resource.
ABS wheel speed sensor faults are often the result of a problem with the connector where the sensor plugs into the wiring harness, and not with the sensor itself. The connectors for the rear sensors are mounted on the frame rail, behind the wheel and tire. To reach them it’s best to remove the wheel.
We don’t know anything about your mechanical abilities, but as others have said you can try swapping the rear sensor and see if the fault moves to the other side, which would indicate the problem is with the sensor.
Many people simply cut out the connector and splice the wiring together. In fact, Land Rover later switched to selling sensors with long, unfinished wires meant to be routed all the way to the SLABS computer behind the glove box, presumably because they found the connectors were a problem. That’s unnecessary in my opinion, but it reinforces the idea of eliminating the connector by cutting it out and splicing the wires. That’s what I’ve done on my truck twice – right rear and left front.
If I ever have to do the job again for either of the other two sensors I would use solder splices like those linked below, covered with heat shrink tubing. I think that would be easiest.
