One thing I learned by doing this type of repair is that the damage will be worse then what your looking at. Prepare yourself! I would remove that black sound proofing membrane on the floor. One area to inspect is under/around the brake booster. Start at the steering components coming out the firewall and across to the corner by the wiring harness. I had a hole that was around the steering. Couldn't see it inside because of the second plate in the footwell covered it up. Water flowed in behind that plate. I would also remove the plastic trim on the outside sill. The seam sealer behind the front 1/4 panel was gone. I resealed those as well. I ended up replacing the inner and outer sills/ footwell/ lower side and almost half the floor. I posted some pics because it can seem over whelming but it's achievable. Good Luck!!
Someone stole the seam sealer. It was leaking on the inside wall. New seam sealer and paint New floor!
Thank you for the reply, I will check for the seam sealer but can you elaborate a bit where is it exactly?
Also I have removed the carpet a bit of that green/black sound prrof thingy and I have now 3 small holes
I will wait for it to dry a bit more, I am fully ok on the right hand side of the car as it did snow and now melting I do not have any leaks over the roof or right hand side footwell. Also I will re-fit the headliner now after this good news
But for the footwell on the left hand side which is my drivers side LHD, a bit more concern just arose as mentioned I can see that it is very similar in many cars that this section just gives up.
That seam is located behind the front left (drivers side) 1/4 panel. You have to remove it. It isn't that bad to remove (3 bolts by the door hinges, 4 or 5 along the top of hood and remove the front signal/directional. Bolt for the plastic sill trim. I did both sides and they looked identical. I knew my drivers side was leaking and needed repair. I did temporary repairs in the past on the floor and a hole around the wiring harness. When I finally found "the leak" and really cut into the damage it was a cancer. It spread fast in a short time and the temp. repairs looked worse than the original. The damage was isolated in that area and excellant metal was all around it. The only surprise was the inner sill because from under the truck it looked fine. Once a took a hammer to it the front started to crumble. The outter sill showed more damage when I removed the plastic trim. If you plan on keeping the rig I would make sure you cut out all the rust. Hopefully you can salvage alot of it!
Thank you all just to give an update the weather has been terrible to work on the car but in a sense good to see the leaks and bad to see it leaks
While one day weather was good, I removed A pillar trim on right hand side and sealed between the front window. Also did seal the thingies in the door pillars itself. So on right hand side I do not see water now coming in.
But on the other hand Left had nside which is my drivers side continues to leak, I did not seal yet under the A pillar plastic I will do that and most probably the top. But now I am leaning towards as posted to remove the side wings kind of to see whats there. I do not see any water or trace of water behind the pedals etc, the water sits at the left side of the floor. After I find and fix the leak next will be the holes that I have found I will cover them up
