Which Discovery do I Purchase?

RE: Which Discovery do I Purchase?
would not be without my air suspension, and if you intend to do more on road than off road driving there is NO comparison D2 wins bya HUGE mile!!!. A D2 with Diff lock and TC will out perform a D1 offroad.
The updated headlights on the 02 on model (here in uk) are nice to look at, its personal choice whether you or whoever prefers them, howeverthey are prone to "leaking"- filling up with condendsation. A pre-facellift D2 can be easily retro fitted with later headlights anyway.
Have I added to the confusion !! [sm=smiley17.gif]
Btw, I have one of each, so its not a bias opinion

Whatever you do stay away from the air suspension, dosent matter what car it is on, Cadillac, Lincoln, Lexus, it will fail and is exspensive to fix.

I take exception to that when it is in reference to Cadillac. I have owned 4 Cadillac vehicles with rear "self-leveling" air suspension and the only failure I ever had was on an 82 Fleetwood which eventually had leaky seals in the air shocks. A simple shock replacement by me cured that. This "leak" happened in 1993, when the car was 11 years old.

You can buy the linkage out of a D1 to make your locking transfer case usable. I would then pull the front shaft and have it re-built, unless it has just been done. You should be good to go then.
There is a 60K service on here. You can get started on that after you get the major things done. It is a must for a new to you Rover.
