While you are on eBay, spend another $8 for a new fob case

Untangle the wiring.
Get an ECU from a junk yard or eBay.
Make sure it is SAI or non SAI depending on your situation.
And that's bout it.

Jfall -

Unless you mean get an ECU, BCU, and Instrument Cluster from the same vehicle, I don't think your plan is as simple as it sounds.

If you put a different ECU in your truck, you will have to program it to "match" the BCU. This requires special equipment or paying a shop.

I have all three of these items from a known working vehicle (2003 SE) in my possession. I think the odometer is 134K miles. PM me if interested.

Default Help with 2008 lr2

Hi
Glad I found this thread...! I have a 2008 lr2 that has been running very badly 3 misfires (1,2,5), won't accelerate, burning gas like I do coffee, and tons of parts replaced (maf, fuel regulator, spark plugs, coils, battery, and more) and no proper diagnosis by the dealer. It stalls on cold start up and you cannot run the ac unless it's been driving a while or it will stall again. Been in shop 3x this week alone. Finally someone says it seems to be the ecm is not working because the 14 fault codes I get all have a problem to do with not receiving communication etc...
I am running out if money and desperate at this point. How can I replace the ecm the most cost effectively? Can I do this myself without the dealer?
Any help is greatly appreciated I really love this car :/thank you for your help.

Replaced my ECU a few years back with a used one from wrecker. did not replace BCU...or anything else. Just plugged it in and had a shop reprogram it which laughingly took about 2 minutes. I believe the shop used some sort of BMW scanning tool. Also The Hawkeye works and maybe the nanocom. I know that doesn't really answer your question but just wanted you to know that it can be done easily.....with the right tool and there is no need to replace anything else. I had the same worry. Good luck.

Oh and FYI, I replaced mine because of a bad signal that was being sent through my O2 sensors. I spent almost $1000 and 2 months of bull**** trying to track this issue down. The ECU switch fixed everything. Also gave me more MPG and horsepower. Ok the last part was a lie,

The truck didn’t run after the switch or did it cus ied have to drive mine to a shop in another state to have it reprogrammed.do all shops know how to reprogram an ecu? I feel like I call a local LR shop and they act as if I’m speaking gibberish
