Default Discovery II TD5 Performance Problem

A while back the head gasket went on my Discovery II.

Took it to a specialist who replaced the gasket and skimmed the head.

However, the performance is now significantly down - not as bad as limp mode - but it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

It's been to 2 other specialists and all sorts of diagnostics undertaken. It's not the timing, the fuel pump, the turbo - everything shows OK on diagnostics. Except the car just doesn't go very well.

So now it looks like the head needs to come off again to see if there's a problem inside. But before I commit more money - has anyone got any ideas? We're talking unusual here - the people that have attempted diagnosis so far know what they're doing and have spent a long time searching.

Any suggestions welcome

have the techs, do a wet and dry compression tech. you have check most of the stuff I would. There is also a problem with the fuel sending unit in the gas tank that can cause a lot of power loss. might want to have it checked. better than having to tear the motor down. hope it helps, gotta love a rover. duboff

Thanks for that, Duboff. Fuel sending unit was checked as was exhibiting signs of a poor earth (fuel guage showing empty when tank is over half full).
