Default discovery motor swap?

I was wondering about trying to find a discovery with a blown engine and swapping in a different motor? I have the complete engine, drivetrain and all electronics and wiring out of my 94 mustang cobra that I totaled out a couple years ago. I know how to cut and weld so I could fab up brackets and stuff. The motor is a 5.0 gt-40 cobra motor so it has the hp to move. Any one tried to swap in a different motor into the discoverys?
thanks-jon

Our tranny and diffs won't handle that amount of torque.
By the way, what year is your D2?

I dont have a discovery yet, but know of one with a blown motor that would be cheap enough for a project vehicle. My cobra motor is just sitting in the barn gathering dust so I was trying to find a good use for it. The 94/95 cobras were last year of the 5.0 pushrod motors, its really not that strong maybe 350lbs of torque at flywheel. Would that still be too much?

Can't answer your question about the torque, but thought someone should point out that it would be illegal under federal law to swap in the engine out of a '94 to a D2. The D2's are all OBDII and you'd never get it to (legally) pass inspection anywhere that requires emissions. You might be able to get a pre-'95 DI and make it legal though...

Now that all of the above is out of the way... If you're just going to use it as a trail rig, and/or live somewhere that inspections aren't a problem, then go for it. I've seen threads where guys have swapped in a Chevy 350, so the 5.0 should be do-able if you've got the fab skills and a lot of time.

Take lots of pictures and post them up...I'm sure a lot of people will be interested to this project come together.

thanks for the replys! I live in KY so there is no vehicle inspections and no emission testing. Do you know of any links to the folks who have done the 350 swap? Need to find out what kind of bellhousing adaptions would need to be made or if thats not possible would have to adapt the cobra transmission to fit. Need to do some more homework, but this would be fun!
