Default Discovery Start Problem

We have a 1995 LR Discovery manual transmission. For some months now, after it has been starting fine, we will get in, the ceiling light & ignition light will go on with the open door, but when we put the key in the ignition these lights go off & all power cuts off. When we turn the key, nothing happens. After a few days, we come out & do the same, and the car starts right up with no issue, but not if we try soon after this happens. Yesterday, this happened. I inserted & removed the key a couple of times, depressed and released the clutch, jiggled & moved the gear shift in and out of neutral. Nothing happened. Finally, I tried slamming the driver door very hard. Presto-the power came back & I started the car right up. I am guessing some kind of loose wire somewhere, but don't know where.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Stu

Check your battery cables first, then check for loose grounds.
