Default Discovery tow ball

Hopesomeone can help with what's a pretty minor problem but ......... I have a series 2 Land Rover Discovery with the as supplied RAA500 tow assembly with as supplied tow ball. I never tow anything and have never taken this off but nowI have to fit a bicycle rack and I simply cannot get the nut off the ball with the spanners I have with me and can’t get a decent sized shifter or stilson onto the nut because of the side plates on the assembly.

Cananyone please advise the nut size so I can buy, beg or borrow a heavy duty ring spanner tomorrow to get this off.
Thanks
Johno

If you are adding a bike rack, you need to remove the insert, including the ball, and then slide the bike rack into the receivor, at least that is how I remember doing it.

Thanks Mike but first you need to move the ball and to do that i need to remove the nut. For various reasons it's the diameter of that nut that I'm asking about. Do you know what that is?
Regards
Johno
