Diso 2 - Hi/Low Transfer Case
Hi All:
I just bought my discovery 2 a couple of weeks ago.
164k on it.
Threw in new hoses, spark plugs, battery, mass air flow sensor and it is now running like a champ. New rotors and brake pads on its way.
Decided to take it out to the beach yesterday, popped it in Low gear for some sand action and it was handling great.
My question is the following:
Can I put the 4x4 into neutral and select drive in on my gear box or do I have to be in either Hi or Low on the transfer case in order to be in drive?
I could of swore I was always in neutral (4x4) and drive on my gear box.
For some reason now I either have to be in Hi or low for my tranny to work.
Maybe I wasn't paying attention and I've always been in HI but I swear when I bought her and I've been in neutral (4x4).
Any clarification
?

You're actually the one that needs to do some clarification, viz, the year of your truck.
That is, your shifting options depends on what equipment your truck has, and that depends on the model year.
However, if your transfer case is in neutral, I'm pretty sure you're not going anywhere.

It has to be in hi or low to be engaged (move). Neutral on the hi/low shifter, means exactly what it says...just like neutral on the transmission shifter.
A good place to find such info is in your owners manual, if your vehicle didn't come with one...there are a couple vendors here that may be able to help you out.
Brian.

Here's a link to the owners manual for the '04 Discovery.
