We had a nice snow storm yesterday which put about 4" of wet slushy stuff on the road. I told my wife to use care as it would be slippery. Of course she managed to put the Jeep G/C over a steep embankment into a field. It's been warm the last week and the field had been plowed last fall and was really mucky. I tried to get the Jeep out but after rocking it back/fourth 5 feet or so was right down to the axles and wasn't going anywhere.
This morning we went back with the Disco. I used 2 long stow straps and a chain to reach down the embankment to the Jeep rear hitch. To my suprise I was able to pull it out of the frozen deep gumbo (itWAS gumbo after trying to work the jeep out) and right up the embankment to the road! I was confident I could pull it back to the embankment, but no way did I think it would walk it right up the hill! The road surface I was on was part snow/slush and part wet pavement. Tires didn't even spin. I've extracted several vehicles from ditches over the years in various vehicles, I was pleased and amazed how well the land rover performed.

I pulled a semi (without a trailer attached) out of a mud pit that the trucker attempted to turn the rig around in. I put my 98 disco in low range, and it got the rig out with no problems. I could even see the front tires on the rig were at an angle to the direction I was pulling it in, and pushing a lot of mud. The best part was that a 3500 Ram stopped to watch, I assume because he didn’t think I’d be able to get it out and wanted to do a little gloating. I did have enough tow strap to place my tires on pavement when I did the pulling.[sm=usa.gif]
