Default Do I need roof bars?

Greetings everyone,

It took me a month, but I finally figured out where the water is coming in... Looks like somehow water gets under the passenger roof bar mount. It comes out after rain when it is hot, presumably because the air expands and pushes it out. In any case, I want to hammer this one out once and for all by removing roof bars and welding the holes shut. What am I going to lose if I go that route? From what I gather, the bars play no role when installing roof racks. I don't ski or plan to put any accessories that require the bars. How can this go wrong?

Cheers, --mc

All you need is a new rubber seal between the bar and the roof. If you can't find one, you can make one.

The rubber seals are intact. Not sure how the water gets under the seal anyway because I put so much RTV there. I basically filled the cavity so that water would not get it.

Then you probably have the A Pillar/gutter leak.
