Do I sell my Disco?
My money says the OP never comes back to this thread - sounds like a troll to me.....
The idea that a 16 year old had that much money to sink into the truck plus repairs doesnt sound logical at all.
Especially given the choice of vehicle if there was that much money at his disposal.
Just my .02

One of my first cars was a 2001 Disco 2. Head gaskets blew out after over heating. Shop quoted me like 7 grand to fix it. Sat down and spent a month doing my first set of HG's. Failed. Did it again with success. Cost me some $1000 between tools and parts. Was very proud of myself. This forum was my saving grace at the time.
I can't think of it all from the top of my head but here is a few of them: p/s pump, all 8 fuel injectors, new driveshaft, IAC, new starter, new alternator, mass airflow sensor. Thats all I could think of from the top of my head. I will go get the records when it comes back from the shop and ill tell you the rest.
I was looking at a 4runner but my dad used to have '03 Discovery and it didn't have that many problems. He ended up selling it because he would drive his motorcycle instead. The head gaskets blew so he sold it. We thought we could find a well maintained one.
Here is the complete and detailed list. This is minus all regular maintenance items such as oil, spark plugs and filter. Upstream O2 sensor, Downstream O2 sensor, Breakpad set, Expansion tank hose, Drive belt, updated right sensor, 8 fuel injectors, Power steering pump, camshaft position sensor, Idle air control valve, Starter, Alternator, front driveshaft, and Mass airflow sensor.
All this added up to be around $9,500 for parts and labor. Just got back the rover and she is purring.

By the way there is only one other Independent Land Rover Mechanic in town. He told me he prefers to not work on D1 and D2. So the mechanic I go to is the only Discovery mechanic in town and he charges $130 an hour. I don't really blame him because I would do the same if I was the only mechanic that will work on discoveries in town.
Like the good book says .. You don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow. Sons of bitches "allow" me to save the fruits of my labor in their IRA account .. so Wall Street suits can play games with it .. no thanks .. I'll keep my money were it's safe .. in a fire proof container .. ..

If yer guy is good and reasonable .. and he LISTENS to you (most important IMHO) and is open to using yer own parts and new idea .. $130 is an absolute steal of a deal .. I would tade places with you in a second ..
