Default DOA power steering pump no. 2

Welp, two months ago my power steering pump did a dumb thing (https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...-death-106757/) and the PS pump I received from BPU was dead on arrival. I only figured this out, of course, after installing it. So he sent out another. ...another DOA PS pump?? How? So frustrating. I took a video of the noise. It's the exact same sound the first one was making, along with a minor, random vibration felt through the steering wheel, sort of like a buzzzzz, when driving.

What's going on with these pumps internally that's creating this noise?

Kind of hard to detremine, all l hear is a slight belt squeal. But, if you're "feeling" the noise in the steering wheel while turning or air in fluid (foaming)...then it's definitely a pump issue. Check lines, hoses and clamps, to pump for any minor leak or abrasion...could be sucking in air.

Sometimes, if your old pump had an internal failure, metal fragments could be still present and ruining new pump(s).

Yeah, to corroborate, I used the long screwdriver to the ear method and you can hear the bearings crunching away.

Update: British Parts of Utah (BPU) is sending out a third pump, but this time he suggested going with a Cardone rebuilt one since clearly, in this case, newer hasn’t been better. I’m sort of at a point now where I’ll just go with whatever works. Interestingly, the rebuilt ones are the same price as a new one. Gotta say, that fellow at BPU is the nicest guy. He’s been such a great sport about sending pumps back and forth.

I went with a rebuilt OEM pump from rovers north (rebuilt by Land Rover. comes in a genuine parts box) and it's working great. I am worried about the URO hose I installed, but I guess time will tell. It was $229 I believe. hope you get yours worked out.

Also check the screen in the reservoir to make sure it isn't clogged. That could cause the pump to run low on fluid n starve the pump.

I actually installed a new reservoir at the start of this whole project since the other screen was so clogged and had a wee tear in it.

Also, FWIW, the last two pumps, out of the box, wouldn't spin freely by hand. Like, tons of resistance. Is that a possible sign of something bad? Or is that normal?

They turn pretty hard, it takes some effort.
