Default Does this blower motor housing look normal?

Above the blower motor is that grid-like space (it’s a bit dark), and it’s open to the inside. Is it supposed to be open or is something supposed to be covering it up? This is on a righthand drive Td5 by the way, not sure if that makes any difference.

I’m trying to identify where my air flow is disappearing to. There’s a small gap where the blower attaches to the housing, and a little air is coming out there. Also the left servo motor is not working, no movement when I change air directions on the A/C unit, though right servo seems to work fine. Heater core has been bypassed, if that makes any difference. The temp itself is cold, just very weak airflow even at full flow, despite a strong blower motor.
