Default Doing Head Gasket, what else while i'm at it?

So my '01 DII with 103k needs some head gaskets. I've been going through the same 'ol, same 'ol "magical coolant loss" and "suddenly no heat" and one short overheat (like a minute). I replaced the tstat and water pump, which was pretty wobbly and leaking a bit.

Now that the water pump is tight, the system is really starting to pressureize. After multiple cycles of bleeding the RAVE way, I'm still getting air in the system. Heat comes and goes. That being the case, it's pretty clear I'm in need of HGs.

I found a local non-dealer rover shop, and they quoted me 1250 for the job. I'm also providing them with some new STI plug wires to install when everything comes back together. Seems like a decent deal to me. Thoughts?

While I'm at it, what else should I do/address, assuming most things look good once it's apart? Hoses?

Thanks!

hose kit is not a bad idea, thermostat and plugs as well.

I just did the t-stat, and the Bosch Plat 4s have less than 5k on them. They are all looking clean, so I'm OK there...

Anything else?

did you order the HG kit from AB? it has a bunch of other gaskets in it that are a lot easier to do while the engine is apart.

Make sure they use new head bolts and if you haven't up-graded the upper radiator hose so your bleed screw is now in the black plastic tee, then time for hoses.

Mike, they are indeed using new bolts, and my hoses are the "new" version...

She goes in on Monday, and he says it should be done on Wednesday morning. Let the stressed-out waiting begin!

I got my Disco back on Tuesday, and I couldn't be happier! Runs smoother, more power, quieter, picked up about 3MPG, blah blah, blah. 1,400 for the whole deal.

New water pump, STI plug wires, and t-stat on top of the HG job really made a huge difference. Now I just need some shocks...

103k, and hopefully another 100k ahead

$1400 seems like a good deal for the whole kit and caboodle. Thanks for following up, glad you have your baby back!
