Done Deal!

Done Deal!
So I am now the proud owner of a 2004 SE. Marroon, alpaca, all stock. I took it from C Springs to Moab, and got 22 mpg! SO stoked. It did everything my buddies Tacoma did, and got better mileage while doing it. Next step - get rid of the stock tyres, new springs / shocks, and a better steering damper. (I may build this myself, it's a pretty simple deal.) The only reason I see for a lift would be to put bigger tyres on it. And the way it performed in the la Salles with the worn out stock rubber, I'm not sure I need anything but a better all season tread.

Congrats on the truck. One thing to note is that getting bigger tires will decrease your MPG. I would suggest the BFG All Terrain K/O model tires in a 245/75/16 with stock suspension or 265/75/16 with a lift. They are a great gripping tire that many of us use and have a nice ride to boot. That being said, if your trying to be economical, go for the General Grabber AT2s ....... I've heard good things.

RE: Done Deal!
I have the Grabber AT2 tires right now and have new tires on the way. I went with 255/70r16 which do not have a very high sidewall load rating. Because of this the sidewalls would bulge quite a lot when I go off road. My new 245/75r16 E load rating tires are on their way.

RE: Done Deal!
Thanks for the welcome. I'm having a good time tinkering so far. I've been some type of wrench all my life, (closer to 50 than 40) from a race wrench in the 70's to a computer mechanic in 2K. Right now I'm doing R&D in a suspension test lab in Co. This thing is almost as much fun as my 43' CJ-3A, and a LOT more comfortable. The only issue (other than worn out rubber -and not all that concerned about the mpg on the new stuff) is I now, after 1.5k miles on my own, is a "wind" noise at the upper corner of the passenger side of the windscreen. When I got the car, I was told it had been replaced 2 months before. the heat works in our early morning frost, but I'm wondering, do I need to pull all the trim around the windscreen to reseal the glass? and is this my "real" problem?
