On the drivers door, the key goes in fine, but when I turn it, it spins left and right loosely and does nothing. I have a feeling something is disconnected or snapped, but I am not sure what. What could be the issue here? The door locking button on the inside operates the locks fine, and the key fob has been lost long ago, so I have no options for locking the car.

 

There's a door lock pin. I believe the original is made out of weak cheap pot metal. Purchase a new one made out of steel.

I can't remember if the door handle has to come off or the door panel. Either way it was an easy install. I did so preemptively years ago.

For keyless door locks an 80 dollar Chinese blue tooth obd two ways dondle and a 30 dollar Amazon key got us keyless entry again.

carrs4x4.com sell the upgraded door lock pin. You need to remove the door handle, and to do that you need to remove the inner door card.
It's a pretty well-documented issue on this forum. Doing a search should bring up some photos to help.
