Door locks
I have an odd problem on my 2001 Disco II: I can lock and unlock all doors from the button on the dash but not from the key. When I try to lock from the key button, I only got the direction lights blinking and horn sounds but no lock at all. Pressing the unlock button on the key, I got only the panel lights. If I try to use the key directly on the door, I can only lock or unlock the driver's door. Any suggestion?
I had a similar problem on my '00 DII.
Turns out that your locking mechanism is electronically controlled through what is called the "intelligent driver module" or IDM.
It is located behind the kickplate in front of your left knee as you drive.
Fuses & relays all go in the front side. For some reason, the IDM circuit boards (located inside the gray pastic box) can get moisture in them, and as the circuit boards corrode, they do all kinds of crazy little stuff that will drive you NUTS! Superlock, lights on & off, dash lights up like vegas, etc.
I got a replacement shipped to my door by Will Tillery (roverguy.com) for $100.00. Will T. is awesome, thorough, and ships fast.
Swap out takes about 45 mins, not hard to do, just cramped in there. No problems since. If you have a friend or child with small hands, coax/coerce them into helping.....
Its a couple wiring harness clips (all color coded, no need to keep them separated) and a bolt.
You can take yours apart and try to fix, but IMHO, for $100, just swap it and be done. You'll spend hours working on the old one.
