Default Drive Shaft U-joint Question

I was just under the Disco getting ready to change the oil and consider pulling the drive shaft out and have the u-joints replaces. I have an 2004 with 45K miles. Much to my surprise the front u-joint does has a grease fitting. The rear double u-joints do not have the grease fittings.

Is the front u-joint the one that blows up?

Thanks,

RS

Mine failed at 37K, I WOULDE BE CONCERNED AND HAVE IT REBUILT OR REPLACED NEXT WEEK CAUSE A REPLACEMENT TRANNY IS VERY EXPENSIVE.

Does anyone know a good place in Michigan to get a U-Joint replaced/rebuilt?

Depends on where you are in MI.
I know a place a mile from my house.

Any driveline shop can do this. It is such a simple thing. I brought them the parts and let them do the work, cost me $50 in labor.

The front u-joint had a fitting from the factory, the two u-joints that are together (the double cardan CV joint at the gearbox) did not. It's the double cardan joint that grenades.
Read the thread linked to in the write-ups section "Rebuilding a propshaft".

If you do have your propshaft rebuilt (u-joints aren't rebuilt) make sure they do the centering ball also.
Make sure you lube it properly, also described in the thread referred to above.
