You have the middle driveshaft.
The double cardon part is on the left, it is 2 u-joints in one unit, the centering ball centers the two u-joints to keep them alighned.
If, and I am betting that they did, replace the driveshaft with a brand new LR driveshaft then it is about to fail and when it does it will wipe out your $7,000 transmission.

That's a bit histeric isn't it? As I understand it, the failure is caused by the cateletic converter heating the grease inside the u joints, causing it to breakdown over time. If they replaced his old drive shaft with a new rover driveshaft, it's going to take some miles before the cats heat the grease inside the U joints enough to cause them to fail, right?
That said, I agree he should have greaseable u joints, just that he shouldn't fear driving till he can get it done if he has a brand new shaft.

Front prop shaft problem
Ok replaced the front prop shaft within two days it failed. Did not break transmission I had it towed home. Ordered new shaft with zerts in u joints and on shaft. Drove 60 miles begain feeling vibration again. I removed front shaft , manually engaged cdl. No vibration. This is in a 2001 d2. My question is. Why is it destroying new shafts? What am I missing? I am totally lost on this one.

Ist off you should really start a new thread - take a look how old this one is.
Next your problem is not the drive shaft at this point it has to be one of three things
You need to make sure that the is no movement in the output of the transfer case or front diff, give the speed of failure I am betting the output on the transfer case moves a lot or the mounts are completely gone

- Front diff
- Transfer case output shaft - most likely to my mind
- Broken mounts
