driveline oil weights
Hey all!
I recently switched all of my fluids to 75W90 on the driveline. X-fer case and both diffs. I am noticing a little more whine. I have 5 gallons of 85W140. Is that too heavy? I am in Tulsa and we get the worst of all worlds. Hot summers and cold winters. If it is ok for the summer, I can go to a lighter oil in the winter. The cost of the oil is not a problem for me, and I love any excuse I get to lay under my truck for an hour...
Thanks!
Jason

RE: driveline oil weights
Jason, I have been running a GL6 rated 85/140 weight gear oil in my truck for going on 4 years, and I don't have any desire to switch back even though in the winter it gets pretty cold here in Co. I started using it when I installed my lockers, made them alot happier and the t/case a little quieter. The only side effect would be a slight loos of gas mileage for the first mile or so of driving when it is 0 degrees out and the t/case would be a little stiff to shift first thing in the am when it is freezing out.
