Default Weights on rear diff?

So, why is there about 50lbs of weight bolted to the bottom of the rear differential?

Yes, I figured it was something vibration related but has anyone removed them and seen what kind of difference it made? Since the weights are not directly bolted I'm assuming it's for high-frequency attenuation but with all the mods we make that kind of tuning is quickly un-tuned.

I toar mine of while down in Baja and let me tell you, my truck shook like hell all the way back to the states where I could get it replaced, so to answer your question, yes it is needed.
