Default Driver door open = constant ding?

Is that a normal behavior of the LR Discovery II? It drives me nuts if I need to work on something and have the door open. It just dings non stop like any other car would do if the lights are left on. Is that normal?

With the key in the ignition, yes, its normal.
Either remove the key, or turn the key on.

Or take a screwdriver and manually close the door latch so it thinks the door is closed (just remember to unlatch it before you try to close the door). This is the method I use.

That's just it, it does it without the key in the ignition and just the door open. I have to turn the key to the on position to get it to stop beeping. Just seemed odd as its the only car I've ever know to do that.

Not normal (or at least none of them that I've seen)

Oh, ok, I understand now, no, not normal.
The truck must think the key is still in the ignition, try the ignition lock lube stuff or silicone spray, work the key lock a few times, maybe something is stuck.

You're right. It does think the key is still in the ignition! I'm unable to to jar anything lose. At least when I use the key to lock the driver side door it over rides it and everything turns off.

This may have something to do with my elusive key fob problem too! Can anyone check for me if your key fob lock/unlock buttons work while the key is in the ignition? Thanks!!

Nice catch! I bet it does, maybe depending on how the BCU is configured for bathrobe disarming... I tried testing it, and I was able to use the fob to unlock, but not lock, with the key in.... but I also cannot get it reliably ding. If I wiggle the key, it dings. I think my ignition might be a little warn the opposite way your ignition is.

Thanks for testing it! For me with no key in and driver door open constant ding, insert key same thing, turn to position 1, same ding. Only when I turn to position II does the ding switch to a faster ding, everything turns on, and the ding stops after a few dings.

While in position II or any other position I can not get my fob to work anything, nor while out of the car in any normal operation, I was hoping maybe I was on to something but it sounds like your unlock works while in the ignition.

I tried spraying some silicon after reading the "key not turning" thread but no luck. It still thinks the key is in once its removed. Is anyone else close to their LR and care to test if the key fob works while in the ignition in position 0 - I - or II ? Thanks guys!!
