I got the same noise on my DiscoII. It's only at the top when it get's off track and makes the scary bang noise. I saw the write ups on just replacing the wheels, but will probably just go for the whole regulator. I know on my wifes BMW X5, the weak part was the clips that actually hold the regulator assembly to the glass. Are these a known issue before I begin this trek?

Thanks in advance.

Leo

Probably a worn center pivot on the regulator semi circular gear and the motor rides over the teeth. Either drill it out and repair it or replace the regulator. Mine was exactly the same, aftermarket regulators are as cheap as chips.

Default Just replace Regulator and Motor..

I had exact same problem two weeks ago. Mine was probably the motor (some reconditioned crap that I bought about 18 months ago on eBay). So I ordered new aftermarket regulator and motor from Land Rover Parts and Spares Direct in the UK.

The regulator was fine, motor shot, but replaced both anyway. Took me 30 minutes.

Item Name & Attributes SKU Quantity Price/Unit Sub total
CUR100450
MOTOR ASSY-WINDOW CUR100450.C8 1 $ 28.78 $ 28.78
LR006374
REGULATOR ASSY LR006374.C8 1 $ 20.26 $ 20.26

I paid $32 for shipping, which is two day. $80 all in.

Thanks all, these are great replies. Sounds like the clips aren't an issue then. Will follow your advices.

Yeah... "Allmakes4x4" sells the regulator for $25 in the US. Take it to any respectable shop to have it installed. It's not a hard job and should take them no more than 2 hours max.

Hope that helps

I can do this job myself. His website seems like I need to give him a call. Can't order online. $25 is a killer price.

The hardest part (and it's not really hard) is removing the door card without breaking the clips. TIP, prise the door card away about 1/8" alround and spray the clips with silicon spray and leave for 10 minutes to soak in and the door card comes off easily without breaking the clips. Spray the clip sockets in the door shell again before you reinstall the card and it's a doddle to push the clips in and if necessary remove them again later.

The upper shock rubber bushing was melted on my D1 and I got a shock online when the local repair shop said they couldn't get just one shock. Once I got the part, I didn't figure it would take much to put it in so I went back to the repair shop. The quoted me $115 to install it since I brought in the part. I checked 2 other shops and they were much higher... We are talking a front shock here, not a transmission rebuild!! Top price quote I got was $265...

ended up refilling my Oxy-Acetylene tanks and doing it myself on the street, took about 45 min. Obviously they did not want to take my money or fix my truck. They told me they charge extra when a customer brings in the parts..but yet they told me they couldn't get the parts....
