Default Drivetrain Clunk

I have a 2000 D2 and really love the truck. One thing I notice which bothers me is I hear a clunk in the drivetrain if I'm traveling 45-50 MPH and I let off the accelerator and then back on it. If I gently press the accelerator than no problem but if I quickly hit the accelerator I get the clunk.

Is this common? Suggestions?

check u-joints, u-joint bolts, there will be a bit of a clunk during these conditions but not real bad. get a wrench and try to tighten all the u-joint bolts, also a siezed u-joint can be the problem, but a simple grab of the drive line and trying to twist it won't tell you anything, actually get under and inspect.

I just replaced the front drive shaft about 3 months ago. Rover dealer did not mention any other problems

From what I have found it is most likely the ware on the out put shaft of
the transfer case most DI's have that and some DII's.
You may here a clunk when you go back up also.
It will last for years and years like that with no problems, if that is
indeed the problem.

You do not specify milage. It is normal to have significant clunking in the drivetrain. One warning. The front driveshaft on dII's has a double cardon type joint that is not grease-able. This is prone to failure @ approx 100K. It can also take out your trans case.

The "Q" refers to the gear cut, not clunking.

The only Changed the gear cut in 2002 or 2003. The clunk is more than likely normal. 1998 and older Disco's have a Input shaft that can be replace and can repair some clunking. D2's do not. check the ujoints in the front prop shaft. other than that you are hearing normal drive line lash. I have seen the ujoints wear out around 40 to 80,000 miles. The a/c drain tube drops water directly onto the front prop shaft causing the joints to rust and fail. This is usually noticeable with a Squeeking rotational noise and a vibration durring acceleration. If not addressed you take the chance of dammaging the transmission, transfercase and Cat converter on that side.
