Default '02 RR drivetrain disengaging/slipping

I have an '02 RR. The drivetrain has begun disengaging (teeth grinding or spline disengaging sound) when the engine is in a med-heavy torque mode up hills or starting from a stop. It sounds like it is coming from the front transaxel but I am not sure. Any idea what the problem is?

thanks

I would not drive it anymore till you can get it into a shop. You have either a t/case or one of the differentals that may be failing and the more you drive it the bigger the bill$$$$$$$$.
