driving gear shifter running hot

mines always hot (maybe because of the location though!) but no if I touch the indicator strips (or the letters that tell you what gear your in) they will burn my fingers if I leave them there too long. But its like I said alot of that could be the heat from the tranny in addition to the 100+ degrees outside! my brothers mazda mx3 gets very hot around the shifter too.

Just noticed today on my way home fro work that my shifter gets hot too, only the metal and nothing else.
In the 2.5 yrs I have owned the truck I never felt that while driving.

You might have the wrong bulbs in the the shifter housing. I replaced mine with some from the local parts store and noticed the gear selection numbers were extremely hot, so I replaced them with the correct ones from Atlantic British with an order I placed and the heat when away.

I have a 99 Disco and noticed the same thing - hot shifter! @tango123 Did you ever find a solution? I know it's been a few years here....
