Default Driving Light Switch Question

I have installed a set of 4x6 driving lights on my 2002 Disco II's factory brush bar. It is a very simple wiring set up - one wire going to battery, one ground and two going to a flimsy switch in the cabin that works about 1/4 of the time.

My question is: with two wires going to the switch (currently mounted underneath the dash to the left of the steering wheel, is there any way to run it to a normal LR fog light switch on the cluster? Those switches seem to have more connectors and I am not sure my current set up would work with one. Any ideas?

By the way, I got these lights from Amazon - $22.00 Navigators (by Pilot) and they are brighter than my headlights. Even with a cheapo switch, the lights were more than worth the price.

Thanks in advance....Rob

Please add an in-line fuse to this modification. You risk burning up the truck.

The D2 uses another module, the Body Control Unit (BCU), to operate a relay in the underhood fuse box when the dash mounted button is pressed. The buton is not designed for big amps all by itself. You would have to attach to that relay, if present.

Default Thanks!

I appreciate your attaching the wiring diagram and will consult it with my mechanic.

The wiring set up came with an in-line fuse, so hopefully that will not be the reason when/if my Disco II catches on fire.

You can also use the wire near the fog light as the signal wire activating another relay for the driving lights. That way it is not interfering with the amps on the switch and all the power draw will come from the battery to the additional relay and then out tot he driving lights. Your mechanic should know how to set that up. If not go to an audio shop and they will know how to do it.

Definitely use a relay. A cheapo rocker switch is no way to power driving lights. The current draw wil likely overheat the switch. Run light gauge wires into the cabin for the rocker and then run heavier gauge wires to the lights through the relay.
