Why not just run 2 batteries together and don't worry about all the other electrical, I have done it on my last 2 4wheelers for more then 16 years and never had a problem, always had more cranking power then I needed.

My feeling is this, people add these battery systems cause it is cool, ot they think they need them when in fact, for the money spent on them, you can go out and buy or up grade to 2 new Yellow Top or Sears Platinum Marine batterie and have a much more powerfull system.

I disagree with Mike. The problem with running two batteries in parallel without an isolator, is that if there is a drain in the system both your batteries die. then you have no way of jumping the system.

The only chance of that happen so nill. I have done this for so many years, I check each battery once a year and have never had one drop off.

I carry two batteries when off-road in both my LR3 and Disco2... but, guess what!? - same battery. I keep it in a plastic box... sits on a charger when not off-roading, and always at the ready. Hookups for various things are already on both trucks. Best thing is, it is always at full load... which never seemed to happen when I had them in series on the LR3... as it wouldn't be driven regularly enough. I personally think this is the way to go with second batteries, unless this is your DD.
I also like it because I can hook it up just to lights.. just to equipment... etc. Can even walk it over to a buddies Samurai to help get him started... oh wait! That's my truck too.... ;-{P
