At this point your choices are the Uk keys, $150, guaranteed to work. Or used oem key circuit boards from ebay ($30 ish) + nanocom rental ($40 ish) + new ebay housing/key blanks ($8 ish) for a total of $80 ish.
Thanks for the info. Not sure what I'm going to do at this point, but it's good to know what the options are if I can't live with using the key in the driver's door.
If you do want to rely on the key in the door lock, it's probably a good idea to preemptively replace the lock pin with one from Carrs4x4, or manufacture one for yourself. The stock one has a tendency to break, leaving you unable to lock or unlock the door.

Thanks. Had never heard of this issue before. Probably going to go down the replacement remote worm-hole, but in the meantime, this seems to be an easy added sense of security fix.
Just wondering if anyone else has been able to get Ebay replacement key fobs to work or if they're still a no go? Any other reliable sources for these?
I just experimented with one of the donor vehicle keys and split it open. Could you order a cheap EBay blank, have it cut and swap in the old circuit board? As you can see my buttons are what have perished. Though it would be nice having a second key if the blank attached above could be programed and a "shaft" inserted.
The blade can be purchased by itself. I forgot the part number but I bought a few a long time ago when I was adding some extra keys/replacing bent blades on my old DIIs.
