The color makes no difference, who cares where you get it from?
If thats what you want go for it.

Pushing close to 250K I just can't make myself spend $60 on a thermostat now. Last time I spent that on one I got the wrong one. Plus at my mileage and with all my electronics slowly failing in it I wouldn't be extremely upset over it. But everyone is different that's just how I feel.

250k is pretty amazing. It's kind of like those people that live to be 112 years old, and all they attribute to their longevity is olive oil or something wacky. So tell us, do you run 40 weight Vigo in your disco?

You really want to know what the secret is?
Dont modify your truck beyond OEM specs, change the oil often, drive it and forget about it.
Repair stuff when they go bad, dont use snake oils, only quality fluids are needed.
Simple as that.

Amen on the oil and fluid changes. Like I tell guys about preventative maintenance (PM work), a $10 tube of grease applied when needed saves more head aches than can be fixed by a $10 bottle of Tylenol.

Although, according to the ebay listing mentioned, it appears to be only $39 for the OEM? That makes it very affordable.

This is exactly how I've lived my life with all my vehicles. And to date, I've NEVER had a motor blown. I've owned nearly 100 vehicles (Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles), and NEVER blown a motor. A few of them I bought brand new and ran to over 150k miles. Some I bought used and ran to over 300k miles. In my younger days, I drove some like I STOLE them, but still changed the fluids regularly, and still never had issues.

I firmly believe in Spike's wisdom. Fluids, Fluids, Fluids, minor mods only, and drive like you love it.

That's exactly how I go about it.

I use 15w40 rotella with a napa gold filter ever 3k miles sometimes sooner.
I have a 2in lift but don't run large tires.
The PO removed the check engine and amigos bulbs so I don't worry about it until it starts running rough.
I Don't use a temp gauge. When the aux fan started running constantly I threw in a 180 stat.

The sunroofs leak and it drips plenty of oil, but it runs like a top.

Did I mention that I've also run a K&N filter for almost 50k now as well with no problems from it? I just replace what needs replaced when I have the time and funding.

My 04 is another story. I'm ready to pull the bulbs in it and just drive. I've already removed the aftermarket gauges I installed bc I couldn't drive without staring at them the entire time.
