I was under the impression that they are the only kids in town. Which is absolutely ridiculous. I've never seen a single vehicle system on the market that doesn't have some sort of interface available, except bosche land rovers.... Not that the $350 or so that they want for a tune is a bad deal, but the fact that any changes have to be made via shipping the computer back and forth is insane.

There has to he a dongle and software available somewhere for tuning these computers.

Even my 23 year old pickup with speed density EFI had aftermarket tuning support. As well as my 17 year old motorcycle.

Eff that man. I'd do an LS swap or a standalone EFI system before I paid money like that for what is essentially a timing adjustment and valve body pressure tweak, on principle lol.

Give me something I can adjust myself, it's not rocket science anyways.

Hmm...unless you are going to get some large gains and a few different maps, it is just not worth it.

My best guess is that other companies didn't see a market and these folks don't want to invest any money in a small customer base.

With that said...to the best of my knowledge the engine is very common, in fact, it is one of the more common engine platforms in those years.

It is the ECU that is the underlying issue. I would actually look into some kind of piggy back ECU system instead of tuning.

Check out this thread I found while looking for piggyback ECU systems

Default There is a US tuner!!!!!!!!

I found a company in the us that does it. Below is the email I received from Oliver at speed tuning in Maryland. I spent a hours trying to find other places besides the U.K. and this is what I found.

Hello Jay,

Yes we can do those older Discovery V8, I remember customers were happy with the outcome. You could expect up to plus 15-20HP with a St2 Power Chip, US$ 299.00. Process would be to send your ECU and we normally turn it around the same day.

Best regards,

Oliver

I replied and asked about the possible fuel improvement and this is what I received.

Hi Jay,

Yes it does, but it would be totally individual depending on drive style and area. In general we did see improved MPG V8’s because of the advanced timing situation which is part of the NA tuning process.

Best regards,

Oliver
